Born in Brescia on October 19, 1834, died in Bordeaux on September 15, 1899. He attended the Brescia drawing school under the guidance of the masters Gabriele Rottini and Faustino Joli; He later enrolled at the Milanese Academy of Brera, where he was a pupil of Francesco Hayez (1853-1856). Taken by patriotic enthusiasm, he left Milan without having completed his studies to take part as a volunteer in the Risorgimento campaigns: in 1859 in San Martino, in 1860 with Garibaldi in Sicily, in 1866 in Trentino and in 1870 in the Vosges during the Franco-conflict Prussian. After having been for the first time, in 1866, in Paris, he will return there three years later exhibiting a painting and two drawings at the Salon, which earned him an award. From 1872 to 1878 he returned to his hometown, Brescia, while continuing to travel often in France, England, Spain and America, painting views inspired by the countryside of Brescia, Valtellina and Brittany, Atlantic seascapes, scenes and sketches from life. He settled permanently in Bordeaux in 1878, albeit with frequent returns to his hometown. His paintings are mainly preserved in private collections in Brescia.
