Born in Livorno in 1858, died in Torre del Lago on 15 October 1923. He studied first with Lemmi and then with Betti, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence (where he had settled with his family), under the Ciaranfì, then with League of which he followed the advice and whose influence is very visible in his early works. Later he formed a more original personality, and devoted himself to the compositions of crazy villagers, of which he studied collective psychology. He made his debut at the Florentine Promoter with the painting The blessing. He was awarded in Paris and at the Colombian Exposition in Genoa with the painting Bagnanti. In the Pinacoteca di Livorno you can find the Portrait of Pietro Mascagni, a very representative work of a passing of Italian painting. In 1899, disgusted by all the movements, he left for America, traveling and painting in Tierra del Fuego and reporting successes at the Exposition held in Buenos Aires under the auspices of the Government. Among his paintings are remembered: Head of an old man; Rock of the Madonna in Antignano; Via Torretta in San Salvi, exhibited at the Promotrice of Florence in 1882; It starts raining again; The dinner of Bus-sotto; Thought; On the farm; On the Elma; On the Arno, exhibited at the Florentine Promoter in 1883; Study from life, exhibited in Livorno in 1886; On the farmyard; Grandmother; The smoker; The rest of the Gabbrigiane; Studio di vecchia and Return from the source, exhibited in Florence in 1887; Summer morning, exhibited and awarded a bronze medal in Paris in 1889; Gli emigranti, kept in the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome; The fisherman of Rezzoaglio; Marina; After the libeccio; Latest digs; Old Cenci, presented at the Florentine Spring in 1922.
