A pupil of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lucca, he perfected himself under the guidance of Luigi Norfini. Lucchesi, author mainly of figurative subjects and landscapes, after a debut characterized by an academic language, he approached a more realistic painting, aimed at the attention of the truth. A rather shy and reserved character, Lucchesi will never leave his city, not even once he has achieved success. In the company of a few friends, including Puccini, Pascoli, Borsi and Catelani, he loved to observe and represent his Tuscan landscapes, privileging and insisting on his details. From the beginning of the eighties he devoted himself to the representation of fruit, especially grapes, still hanging from the branches; if, in this case, one cannot speak of a real still life, because the fruit is still inserted in his environment, Lucchesi began to approach this genre when King Umberto I made the San Rossore estate available to him. From this experience, full of stimuli, compositions were born centered on the representations of wild boars, birds, deer, roe deer and foxes, made with an almost photographic rendering of details, and with a care in the reconstruction of the interiors (think, for example, of the compositions of dried flowers and the rendering of furnishings), to arouse the esteem and admiration of critics and the public. The first exhibition in which he participated was that of Florence in 1878, followed by that of Rome in 1983, of Turin in 84, of Livorno in 86, of Venice in 1989 and the International of Rome in '95. He also exhibited at the Festival of Art and Flowers, an exhibition set up in Florence in 1896. Among the numerous paintings we remember The grandfather's pipe, Grappoli d'uva, After the harvest, The vine, The transport of the trunk and Easter of the poor . A lover of solitude and a secluded life, Lucchesi refused the position of Director of the Art Institute of Lucca, offered to him in 1900 by the Ministry of Education; he did not renounce, however, that of member of the City Commission for the conservation of monuments, and that of ordinary member of the Lucchese Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts.
